Stransky Funeral Home Obituaries

MARGARET 'MARGE' PATRICIA (STRANSKY) MRAZ

Margaret ?Marge? Patricia (Stransky) Mraz gently passed away on the evening of Dec. 16, 2017, surrounded by her children, at the Hiland Cottage of McLaren Hospice in Petoskey. Marge was born Jan. 26, 1923, in her Farrell, Pa., home to Slovakian immigrant parents Julia and Vince and was the last of eight children, all of whom preceded her in death. She graduated from St. Anne?s Parochial and Farrell High Schools and went on to work as a data entry clerk at Golden Dawn Foods. The fun of post-war dance halls introduced Marge to her husband, Joe Mraz of Campbell. He literally swept her off her feet with his smooth polka and jitterbug moves, and they shared 52 years of marriage, more dancing, bowling, casinos, card playing and beloved family travel and gatherings until Joe?s death in 2009. Throughout her life, Marge cherished her Catholic faith. She was a devoted parishioner of St. Elizabeth Church, and a weekly St. Jude Novena attendee, planting flowers at the outdoor shrine. She was active in the Infant of Prague Guild and watched daily television Mass and Rosary as she became homebound. A self-taught seamstress with a keen sense of design, Marge created and sewed her lovely wedding gown, clothes for herself and daughters, and made many draperies for friends and family. She crafted lace porcelain dolls and hand-painted ceramic gifts and loved to decorate her home for all occasions. She was well-known for her beautiful calligraphy handwriting on the many greeting cards she enjoyed sending. Marge lived for fresh perked morning coffee with a pastry, reading two daily newspapers cover-to-cover, taking in a good theater production, cooking hearty Slovak meals, evenings at the Bingo hall and a challenging game of Acey Deucey. Her warm wit and hospitality will be remembered. Marge?s children and grandchildren meant the world to her. Blessed and honored to call her ?Mom? are Monica and Mike Doctor of Petoskey and Missy and Tom Robbins of Park City, Utah. Grandma?s favorites are Dane (Jeanine) Doctor, Molly Margaret R... (Youngstown Vindicator)
